WriteSource Medical can support your supplier diversity model as an accredited Women-owned small business.

What is supplier diversity?

‘Supplier diversity’ is a business practice that encourages diversity in the supply marketplace by encouraging the purchase of goods and services from businesses owned by, or that assist, under-represented groups  (Diversity Council Australia, 2023).

Implementing a supplier diversity model may be a catalyst for a mindset shift that has the potential for broader positive impacts. Supply diversification can be used to align an organisations corporate social responsibility in equality in gender; minority or under-represented groups as well as sustainable procurement and environmental impact.

Supply diversity can benefit an organisations operational model with flexible purchasing mitigating resource constraint risk and competitive pricing for goods and services. What level of supply diversity exists in your organisations good and services procurement?

How does supplier diversity impact small businesses?

Small business can both be a receiver as well as a provider of supplier diversity. As a receiver the small business benefits from access to new markets and clients, competitive knowledge and business growth. As a provider the small business offers a more personal relationship, flexible purchasing power, resilient and agile provision of service, innovation in products and services, and community support.

Women Owned Businesses and Leadership

One of the under-represented groups is women owned businesses. Although globally women-owned businesses comprise one third of all businesses, they are estimated to receive only one per cent of procurement spend by large corporations  (A 10-year-plan to unleash the full capacity and contribution of women to the Australian economy 2023 – 2033, n.d.).

It is well recognised that globally men are over-represented in management and leadership roles. Recent legislation and taskforces devoted to gender equality have been fundamental in the shift towards recognition of this imbalance and the drive for equality in rights, responsibilities and opportunities of all individuals.
